OPWDD Family Reimbursement Program

Family Reimbursement funds are to be considered a last resort. Other sources of support, i.e., Medicare/ Medicaid, insurance, food stamps, Public Assistance, SSI, SSA etc., should be considered first before applying for family reimbursement funds. Each application must be accompanied by documentation of the developmental disability and a written justification letter explaining the reason for your request.

Please note that if the goods and services are eligible to be paid by Medicaid, Medicare, or any other health insurance, you must include a denial letter with your application.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Family Reimbursement funds are a gift, not an entitlement. Limited Funds are available each year. It is in your best interest to apply early and submit a complete application. All applications which are complete will be reviewed in the order that they are received. Applicants will be notified if the reimbursement program funds are exhausted prior to their application being considered by the committee.
  • Reimbursements are available up to $500.
  • We do not reimburse for disposable items such as diapers, pads, lotions, personal hygiene products, food/snacks.
  • Furniture must be just for the benefit of the individual
  • In regards to beds, reimbursements are for twin beds only, if a larger bed is needed, please provide a letter of justification from the individual's physician
