Psychology Internship / Postdoc Program

CARES is proud to offer psychology internship and postdoctoral fellowship training programs for those enrolled in doctoral graduate psychology studies or for those who have completed their doctoral studies and are seeking to enhance their skills, gain diverse experience and acquire postdoctoral supervision for licensure.

The CARES psychology internship and postdoctoral programs offer unique and comprehensive opportunities to work with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, mental health conditions and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities across a wide range of ages (from birth to adulthood) and settings (in our licensed out-patient clinics, family home, schools and other community locations). In addition, our out-patient clinics provide services to children and adults presenting with a multitude of conditions including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavioral problems. Interns will receive intensive training in applied behavior analysis (ABA), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), diagnostic testing and comprehensive report writing. Ongoing training seminars are provided throughout the year by clinicians and experts on varied diagnostic techniques and treatment modalities. Individual and multidisciplinary group supervision is provided to share skills and enrich participant’s knowledge.

Interns and fellows have the opportunity to gain skills working with diverse cultural populations as our programs have historically worked with underserved Chinese and Hispanic immigrant families. CARES is a multidisciplinary agency which employs Psychologists, Social Workers, Certified Special Educators, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational and Physical Therapists, Nutritionists and others. Interns are expected to work together with professionals of different disciplines and are exposed to a collaborative systems-based approach to treatment.

Past participants have truly appreciated the extensive experience they gained at CARES working with children and adults from many cultures with a wide range of conditions across multiple settings as this equipped them with many tools and strategies for their future practice.
